Lesson Plan Description

Students respond the the text A Day in the Life of Me (Marsden, 2002.)

Primary Learning Objective(s):

Comprehension of written text.  Identiifcation and comprehension of sequence of events, cycle of th day.  Exploiration of their own personal wishes and desires through extensive use o fhteir imaginations.  Using illustrations to convey a message and emotion. 

Additional Learning Objective(s):

Individual perspectives appreciated and respected.  Students have the opportunity to learn about themselves, personal learning, and to develop thinking skills by employing thier imaginations in conjunction with past experiences.  Studetns also have the opportunity to create a draft of events in the form of a comic before committing to thier final artistic piece.  The lesson is scaffolded with the text, draft and opportunity to expnad on prior knowledge in a non threatening environment.  The collaboration of a class book highlights acceptence of individuals within the whole class group.

Procedures/Activities:

Read the story.
Discuss the content, specifically the delightful fantasys realised by the boy in the book in his perfect day.  draw attention to the sequence of events, morning, midday, afternoon, evening etc. Students respond to the text A Day in the Life of Me (Marsden, 2002) by describing thier perfect day.  This is best done in a comic strip form on an A3 piece of paper ruled/folded into approx 8 equal sections.  Students write simple sentences and sketch each event in a seperate box.  Share.  Students then decide on their favoutie thing to do and they then have to create a page of their own to be comiled into a class book titled "A Perfect day in the Life of ...(insert class name here). 
The opening page (can be decorated by early finishers) reads "On a perfect day...  Students individual pages will each begin with "(thier name) Alice ...(thier favourite thing to do) plays guitar at a rock concert"

Pages are then compiled into a book to share with the whole class.

paper, crayons, textas, pencils etc

book binding machine.

Assessment Guidelines:

Assessment is based on students successful completion of a sequence of events, including illustrayions.  Careful thought and justifcation of what they would do on a perfect day in their own life.
