Lesson Plan Duration - 30 day(s)
Grade Level - 3-5
This is a unit of study for gifted and talented students. They will be introduced to fossil fuels and why they are not the best for the environment.
The student will research several types of renewable energy sources during the first week.
During the second week he will decide on one source that he feels is the most 'friendly' to the environment and to our nation's economy. He will spend week two accumulating and organizing materials for a term paper.
Week three will be spent writing his argument for his renewable energy choice and building his bibliography. Week 4 will find the student making drawings, posters, models or some other 'prop' to accompany his report.
At the end of the fourth week, the children will meet at a round table discussion. Their job will be to convince the other members of the class that their choice is the best one for restoring the earth's ozone, reducing the greenhouse effect and providing America with clean, economical, renewable energy.
There will be a teacher made rubric to score each presenter on : facts, cost, props, and delivery.
