Lesson Plan Description

Using and scientific journal to teach scientific method. Students was having a hard time identifing how to apliy the scientific method based on vocabular terms. Blooms taxonomy was presented to the students to explain what knowledge level they need to be on for mastery of the subject. This was really good for students that can't apply knowledge with different scenarios.

Primary Learning Objective(s):

To understand the scientific method components through application.  Students will be able to identify independent and dependent variables; and control and experimental groups; also if a hypothesis is every proven.

Additional Learning Objective(s):

Reading strategies and the same objects as above.

To understand the scientific method components through application.  Students will be able to identify independent and dependent variables; and control and experimental groups; also if a hypothesis is every proven.

Procedures/Activities:

Read a scientific article out loud.  Allow a strong reader to read out loud and have other students whisper read to increase fluency among slow readers.  After each paragraph is read stop and identify the problem, hypothesis, experimental subjects and the collection of data, and analyze the results.

Materials/Equipment:

Scientific artical, graphic organizer, paper, computer (MS word) definition sheet and a picture that helps students visualize the research

Assessment Guidelines:

Provide a rubric for students, so they understand what they are getting graded on.  I also will have a sheet with each step of the scientific method and have student fill out all sections as it pertains the the article.
