Lesson Plan Description

Writing of an Informal/Personal Letter at 9-12 standards is very significant as shortly students will be doing so not only for examination purposes but also for their personal objectives.

Primary Learning Objective(s):

At 9-12 level a student is deemed to understand English to a greater extent. He/She has working knowledge of words, phrases and sentences. Now the student must know the format/layout of a personal or informal letter.

Additional Learning Objective(s):

Students should learn how to jot down their ideas in day to day life. Hence, knowledge of proper format is essential.

BODY OF THE LETTER: contains ideas, information pieces, showing gratitude etc. It must be written freely but at the same time it should not be taunting or sarcastic or rough in tone.

Summing up the letter.(Letter may be divided into paragraphs.

Materials/Equipment:

  • Some personal-written-letters.
  • Some official written letters.(For Comparative study. Take care that these are not confidential)
  • Black/Green/White Board
  • Handouts leaving blanks to be filled by students. For instance leaving blanks where normally students are supposed to commit mistakes.
  • Students must be clearly told that salutation, Body of Letter and leave taking begin from the 'Left Hand Side Margin'.
