Lesson Plan Description

I do a couple of different things to teach body parts. For the older students, I get bulletin board paper and they draw a body and label parts. The younger students may draw the bodies themselves, or may just label certain parts, or we may sing "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes" in Spanish.

Primary Learning Objective(s):

To teach and/or review body parts as part of a foreign language curriculum. The students have a lot of fun with this.

Additional Learning Objective(s):

For high school students, it gives them a break and allows them to be creative. It also allows us to share the vocab. with younger students. We hang the pictures out in the hallway to be viewed by everyone. (We have K-12.)

Procedures/Activities:

At the completion of lesson on body parts, the students work in pairs to draw and label whatever/whomever they choose to draw. I've had some trace themselves, draw pirates, aliens, puppies, etc. We take pictures of each group with their drawings when finished.

Materials/Equipment:

Teacher- supplied paper and markers. My church donates supplies for teachers every July/ August (members donate supplies) and I always ask for markers and crayons (glusticks, scissors, etc.) for my students.

Assessment Guidelines:

I try to keep this to one class period. Any more than that, and I feel that I've wasted time. It's fun, and it's a good review, but I DON'T want to waste valuable time! I give them one night   to think about what/who they want to draw (They can discuss at lunch!), and they complete projects in one class period. They are required to include as many body parts as possible. (They always want me to assign a number.) Extra points for using extra vocab. (Clothing, family, aches and pains, etc)
