Compare and Contrast Writing helper for students to practice writing compare and contrast sentences that can then be put in paragraph form for writing compare and contrast paragraphs, reports, and essays. Also helps with writing description for writing descriptive sentences and paragraphs. In a classroom or homeschool setting it students would have fun being able to chose the items themselves or chose items they are very familiar with. After practicing comparing and contrasting familiar items, they should be able to then go on to be able compare and contrast things, people, places, and/or things they are not so familiar with.

Draw or copy five columns for each item on a sheet of paper.
Lable the columns: Size, Color, Shape, Function, and anything that is the same as another item.
Write the appropriate color, shape, size, function, or the same, for each item in the appropriate column.
Write a sentence describing each item's color,
Write a sentence describing each items's shape,
Write a sentence describing each item's size,
Write a sentence describing each item's function.
Write a sentence describing what is the same about any two or more items.
---You end up with X number of Compare and Contrast and/or Description sentences.
On a separate sheet of paper, write the all the sentences in paragraph form for item (1), then do the same for item (2), then for item (3), and so on . . .
You end up with X number of Compare and Contrast and/or Description paragraphs.
Paper, pencil, items to Compare and Contrast;
Items of different shapes, sizes, colors, functions, and items that have something about them that is the same.
